Won Soju was the brainchild of Korean-American hip-hop artist Jay Park, who launched the brand in 2022 after years of genuinely loving soju enough to write an entire song about it. Unlike the mass-produced green-bottle sojus found in most Korean restaurants — typically diluted with neutral spirits from tapioca or sweet potato — Won Soju is distilled entirely from premium Totomi rice grown in Wonju, then aged in traditional Korean clay pottery called onggi for a smoother, more refined finish.
The result quickly became a genuine phenomenon, selling over a million bottles within six months of launch and sparking purchase limits at convenience stores back home in Korea. Expect a clean, aromatic character with steamed-rice sweetness and a light, almost sake-like quality, finishing smooth rather than sharp.
Best enjoyed as a shot at room temperature, paired with nuts or sashimi, the way it's traditionally served in Korea.
