Disaronno's origin story reads like a Renaissance painting come to life. Legend holds that in 1525, a young widow in Saronno, Italy, posed as the model for a fresco of the Madonna being painted by Bernardino Luini, a pupil of Leonardo da Vinci. As a gift to the artist, she steeped apricot kernels in brandy, creating the liqueur that would eventually bear the town's name. The recipe stayed within her family for generations before the Reina family began producing it commercially in the early 1900s — and remarkably, despite its almond-like character, the liqueur contains no almonds at all.
Made from apricot kernel oil infused with a secret blend of seventeen herbs and fruits, it delivers warm marzipan sweetness with a distinctive bittersweet edge, all without a single nut in the bottle.
A classic in an Amaretto Sour, or simply over ice as an after-dinner sipper.
