"A blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, the 2021 Quintus delivers a vibrant bouquet with aromas of dark berries, plums, cassis and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied palate that's layered and lively, built around powdery tannins and concluding with a saline, sapid finish. Given the characteristics of the vintage, this wine stands out as a remarkable achievement, rivaling some more heralded years at this address.
"It's simple, really," explains Jean-Philippe Delmas. "We produce the Saint-Émilion de Quintus from sandy soils on the plain, the Dragon de Quintus from colluvial soils at the bottom of the slope and Quintus itself from the limestone hillside. In Burgundy, we'd call them our village, premier cru and grand cru bottling, but in Bordeaux—and it doesn't sound as good!—we call them our third, second and first wines." Quintus itself spans some 32 hectares, assembled with the acquisition of châteaux Tertre Daugay, L’Arrosée and, more recently, Grand Pontet. Delmas describes the challenge of the low-pH wines of Saint-Émilion's slopes as being how to deliver supple and integrated tannins without picking too ripe or having too oxidative an élevage. As the adventure continues, the 2021s show an assured hand, and plenty of promise."

Domaine Clarence Dillon is a family company managed by the fourth generation of a dynasty founded in 1935 by its namesake, Clarence Dillon. Since its creation, the company has been celebrating the French art de vivre, combining exceptional wines and ultimate gastronomy.
Domaine Clarence Dillon owns some of the most prestigious estates: Château Haut-Brion (a 1855 Premier Grand Cru Classé), Château La Mission Haut-Brion (Grand Cru Classé de Graves), Château Quintus (Saint-Emilion Grand Cru) and Clarendelle. In 2005, the company created the Bordeaux Fine Wine Merchant, Clarence Dillon Wines, which has become one of the most important Fine Wine Merchants in Bordeaux, and launched Clarendelle, “Inspiré par Haut-Brion”, Bordeaux’s first super-premium luxury brand wine, thus testifying to the far-sighted spirit that has characterized Domaine Clarence Dillon from the onset.
In 2011, Domaine Clarence Dillon purchased a superb property in Saint-Émilion, now renamed Château Quintus. An ancient vineyard, with an extraordinary past, present and future. An outstanding terroir, perched on a limestone promontory, offering a breath-taking 360-degree view. A model of phenomenal biodiversity.
In 2013, Château Quintus made the acquisition of another neighbouring property, as well as a third one in 2021. These 3 exceptional properties now form a wine estate of 45 hectares producing one of Saint-Émilion’s finest wines.
The Gallo-Romans, creators of the vineyards of Saint-Emilion, had the custom of naming their 5th child Quintus (fifth). So, Domaine Clarence Dillon has decided to pay homage to its glorious predecessors by renaming this growth Château Quintus.
The number 5 (V) characterises this property, with its slopes and plots of vines facing the four cardinal points and bowing before the sky, towards which winegrowers throw a glance daily to perceive the omens it holds.
Prince Robert of Luxembourg designed a new bottle, specifically for Château Quintus, inspired by Château Haut-Brion’s antique bottles dating from the mid-19th century. Recently, one of these bottles was discovered in a pirates’ cache near the island of Mayotte in the Indian Ocean. The new bottle design features an embossed seal on the neck, similar to those used in the past. Quintus is a recent adventure for the Dillon family and the immense potential of this fabulous terroir is gradually awakening.
Since 2015, Domaine Clarence Dillon also has a Parisian residence, a true embassy of this French art de vivre so prized by Prince Robert de Luxembourg, representative of the family’s fourth generation.
