"Aged in 50% new French oak barrels and blended of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Fonbadet offers up expressive notions of warm plums, blackberries and kirsch plus unsmoked cigars and spice cake scents with a waft of dusty soil. Medium-bodied and laden with juicy black fruits plus loads of spicy accents, it has a finely grained, approachable texture and great length."

Château Fonbadet has been owned by the Peyronie family for 4 generations. Fonbadet can be translated into fountain of the little valley. The 20-hectares vineyard is planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 2.5% Petit Verdot, and 2.5% Malbec. The terroir is gravel and sand soils. The vines are old, more than 50 years of age, located in 3 enviable areas of Pauillac: 4 hectares are located near Fonbadet (adjoining Chateaux Latour and Pichon Lalande), 3 hectares are near Lynch Bages, and the majority of the vines (13 hectares) are near Mouton Rothschild and Pontet Canet.

Set on improving upon the achievements of her forefathers, Pascale Peyronie has wasted no time making improvements to the vineyards and winemaking. In 2014, Pascale hired internationally renowned consultant Michel Rolland. With a notable uptick in quality here from 2016 onward, this has to be one of Pauillac’s best value for money wines!

On average, close to 8,000 cases are produced each year.
