Canadian Club's story begins with Hiram Walker, a grain merchant who built his distillery in 1858 on the banks of the Detroit River, in what became the company town of Walkerville, Ontario. His whisky was so well regarded it once threatened American bourbon sales badly enough that the US government forced Canadian distillers to label their country of origin — turning "Club Whisky" into "Canadian Club" almost by accident, and launching a legacy that would go on to earn five British Royal Warrants.
Unusually for Canadian whisky, Walker's method blends corn, rye, and barley malt whiskies *before* maturation rather than after, a technique still used today. The result is light, smooth, and easy-drinking — gentle grain sweetness with a touch of spice, built for mixing as much as sipping.
A classic Highball whisky: try it simply with ginger ale, the way generations of drinkers have before you.
